General rule
Except where required by applicable law, we don’t refund payments after they’ve been processed.
This includes (but isn’t limited to): monthly subscriptions; one-time access fees (for example the $10.99 single-report unlock); API plan fees; usage-based fees; partial billing periods; unused time remaining in a billing period; unused quotas, credits, or request allowances; and payments for plans or features that are later restricted, frozen, suspended, or terminated for cause under this Policy or our Terms.
Refunds, if any, are granted only at our discretion unless applicable law requires otherwise.
Billing and renewal
If your plan renews automatically, you allow us and our payment provider Stripe to automatically charge your card when your plan renews, unless and until you cancel.
Unless otherwise stated at the time of purchase: subscriptions renew automatically for the same billing cycle; cancellations stop future renewals only; cancelling a subscription does not automatically entitle you to a refund for the current billing period.
You remain responsible for charges incurred before cancellation takes effect.
Cancelling your plan
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings (when available) or via Help & support.
When you cancel: paid access normally continues until the end of the current paid billing period, unless your account is restricted, frozen, suspended, or terminated earlier under our Terms or this Policy; you will not be charged for future renewals after cancellation takes effect; cancellation does not erase outstanding payment obligations, disputes, abuse investigations, or enforcement actions already in progress.
Cooling-off and withdrawal rights
If you are a consumer and mandatory law gives you a right to cancel or withdraw from your purchase within a certain period, nothing in this Policy is intended to limit those rights.
If your local law gives you a return / withdrawal period (e.g. EU/UK 14-day rule): you must exercise that right within the legally required period; if you asked us to begin supplying the Service immediately during that period, we may deduct or retain the proportionate value of the Service already supplied, to the extent permitted by law; if a legal exception applies for digital services or digital content, your refund rights may be reduced or eliminated to the extent permitted by law.
Where mandatory law conflicts with this Policy, the mandatory law controls.
Technical or billing errors
If you were charged but did not receive the paid plan or paid feature because of a verifiable technical or billing error caused by us, we may, at our option: provide the purchased access; extend the subscription term; or issue a full or partial refund.
To request review, contact us via Help & support and include enough information to identify the transaction (account email, approximate purchase date, payment method, and any Stripe transaction or invoice identifier if available).
No refunds for violations, abuse, or risk
To protect the Service, our staff, contractors, affected individuals, and the public, we may restrict, freeze, suspend, or terminate an account immediately if we reasonably believe the account has been used, or attempted to be used, in violation of our Terms or in a manner that creates legal, security, safety, payment, fraud, or abuse risk.
If we restrict, freeze, suspend, or terminate your account for cause, you will not receive a refund, credit, or prorated repayment for the current billing period or any unused portion of it, except where required by applicable law.
Grounds for for-cause restriction, freeze, suspension, or termination include, without limitation: fraud, identity theft, extortion, harassment, stalking, doxxing, unauthorized account access, or other unlawful or harmful activity; attempting to obtain, infer, unlock, or access restricted or high-risk identifiers without authorization (including attempts to access full Social Security Numbers, full driver license numbers, or similarly restricted data); submitting searches or requests for information you are not authorized to use; scraping, bulk harvesting, evading rate limits, bypassing redactions, probing the Service, or otherwise trying to defeat technical or administrative safeguards; using the Service in a way that violates applicable law, regulation, valid legal process, or our Terms; abusive conduct toward our staff, contractors, service providers, or other users (including threats, harassment, intimidation, discriminatory abuse, racist conduct, hate speech, or repeated bad-faith abuse of support or reporting channels); payment abuse (chargeback abuse, payment fraud, use of stolen or unauthorized payment methods, or misleading payment-related representations); or any other conduct we reasonably believe puts the Service, its users, affected persons, or our personnel at risk.
For clarity, purchasing a paid plan does not give you a right to continue using the Service after violating our Terms or engaging in abusive, fraudulent, discriminatory, racist, harassing, or otherwise harmful conduct.
Frozen or restricted accounts pending investigation
We may temporarily freeze or restrict account access while we investigate suspected fraud, abuse, payment risk, harassment, discriminatory conduct, security issues, or other policy violations.
During a temporary freeze or restriction: access to some or all features may be limited; outputs may be restricted or redacted; API access may be disabled; plan features may be paused or reduced; no refund is due solely because an investigation is ongoing.
If we determine that enforcement is appropriate, Section 06 applies. If we determine that a freeze or restriction was unnecessary, we may restore access or provide an appropriate billing adjustment at our discretion.
No refunds for dissatisfaction alone
Except where required by applicable law, we do not issue refunds merely because: you are dissatisfied with the amount, format, usefulness, age, or type of results; a search did not return the result you hoped to find; certain fields are redacted, limited, suppressed, unavailable, or access-controlled; you no longer want the plan after purchase; you forgot to cancel before renewal; your intended use is not permitted under our Terms; or your account was subject to verification, abuse-prevention, fraud-prevention, or risk-based controls.
The Service is provided for exposure-awareness, security, and defensive use cases and is offered on an "as is" and "as available" basis as described in our Terms of Service.
Source availability
The Service depends on third-party feeds (breach corpora, U.S. public-records portals, social-media platforms, dark-web archives) whose accuracy, freshness, and availability vary outside our control. Intermittent reductions in source coverage — including rate limits or temporary outages on a specific source — are not grounds for a refund.
When persistent source degradation materially reduces the value of a paid plan, we may, at our discretion, extend the subscription term, issue a partial credit, or provide another commercially reasonable remedy.
Refund request procedure
To request review of a billing issue or possible refund, use Help & support and include: the email on your account; the purchase date; the amount paid and currency; the payment method or processor used; the Stripe transaction, invoice, subscription, or order identifier if available; the reason for your request; and any supporting information you want us to review.
Submitting a request does not guarantee a refund. We may deny requests that are incomplete, abusive, fraudulent, duplicative, or clearly inconsistent with this Policy or our Terms.
Chargebacks and payment disputes
Before starting a chargeback or payment dispute, please contact us first through Help & support so we can try to resolve the issue directly.
If you initiate a chargeback, reversal, or payment dispute in bad faith, or in connection with a payment that we reasonably believe was valid, we may: suspend or terminate your account; revoke access to the Service; refuse future service; and contest the dispute using relevant billing, account, access, search, abuse, security, and support records where permitted.
This section does not limit any non-waivable rights you may have under applicable law or payment-network rules.
Refund method and timing
If we approve a refund, we will generally return it through the original payment method via Stripe. Where appropriate and permitted by law, we may instead provide account credit, a service extension, or another commercially reasonable remedy.
Approved refunds typically settle within 5–10 business days, but final processing time depends on Stripe and your card-issuing bank and is outside our direct control.
Taxes and processor fees
Prices are tax-inclusive; receipts reflect the inclusive amount and we do not add a separate tax line. If a refund is approved, it includes the tax portion of the original price.
Currency-exchange fees and Stripe payment-processing fees, where applicable, are non-refundable except where required by law. If Stripe’s rules or applicable law require different treatment, that rule will control to the extent required.
Account deletion after termination
When an account is closed (by you) or terminated (for cause under §06), the data-handling described in the Privacy Policy applies. Identifiers are erased within 30 days from primary storage; backups expire on the standard 90-day rotation; billing-history records are retained for 7 years to meet U.S. tax and accounting requirements.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Policy. The "Last updated" date below reflects the most recent revision. The version of this Policy in effect at the time of your purchase generally governs that purchase, unless a later version is required by law or is more favorable to you.
